Issue 03/07: French Foodservice Market and Focus on Syria

This year's third issue of FoodService Europe & Middle East (June/July) is on its way to readers in more than 50 countries throughout the world. 78 pages packed with market data, case studies and analyses. Here's a pre-taste:

  • Part II of our Pan-European Survey on Event Catering - one of the fastest growing foodservice segments in Europe. The big names are operating on an increasingly international scale. However, many smaller companies are becoming more professional and developing into all-round service providers. Wherever you go in Europe, the event catering market is booming. We analyse the markets in Germany, Austria, France, Spain and Italy.

  • Hot Trend: Fast-food icon re-invented - the new wave of Gourmet Burger Bars relies on creative recipes inspired by international cuisine and a decisive quality approach. Examples from the UK, Germany and Spain plus a visit to NYC - the cradle of the trend.

  • Market Analyses: The latest figures from the French foodservice market reveal that 2006 was a good year especially for the 80 biggest companies who ring up growth of 7%. Similarly, the quickservice market in Sweden is in good shape. The 35 largest players grew by 5.5% in 2006 to total revenues of EUR1.168 m.

  • Interview: Greek foodservice leader and franchise pioneer Goody's continues to outpoint international and local brands in the highly competitive Greek markets for both QSR and coffee shops. Since becoming CEO in 2001, Sotiris Seimanidis introduced a fast-growth strategy at both chains and has encouraged development of new concepts.

  • Middle East Section: We concentrate on a Levant country that boasts a history dating back 12,000 years - Syria. The country with a population of just under 19 m has enjoyed annual tourism growth of 15% since 2000. We report on Syria's hospitality perspectives and portray exemplary ventures in the Syrian eat-out market.

  • Contract Catering: A 6,000 meals-per-day food court at the new offices of Spanish telecommunications giant Telefonica in Madrid is the first contract of its kind for Autogrill, best known internationally for its concession-based motorway and airport foodservice.
...and, in addition: reports on mountain-top restaurants in the Alps and the new in-store-restaurant strategy at Whole Foods Market - the leading organic supermarket chain in the USA. A visit to US resort hotels banking more and more on high-end dining options. Suppplier portrait (Bunn) and summary of the first seminar on European soil on 'Successful Multi Unit Restaurant Management' held in Zurich by Prof Christopher Muller.
