The New Face of the American Dream

Tonight we here in the United States of America have witnessed something that can only happen in a nation which is based on hope, and dreams, and the faith in a brighter tomorrow. We have selected a man, President-elect Barack Obama, to our highest office in a sweeping victory. He represents a new beginning, not only for our country, but for so many people around the world who want to believe that the promise of the United States as an agent of positive change still lives in all of us.

I am old enough to have a firm memory of a different time in America, a time of segregation and separate lives for our citizens. In fact, when I was a young boy there were still people alive who had been born as slaves, not yet emancipated by President Lincoln during our Civil War. With tonight’s momentous event that past becomes a memory as we embark on a new path.

The face of America has changed. Brand America is about to change because of that face. Whatever it might have meant before, the American Dream is very much alive tonight.
