Dan Holm - Open Doors Blog

Every day we open our doors to customers. It’s the first step in getting them in our restaurant.

Customers will make their first judgments about your establishment based on the entrance and front door of your restaurant. If anything else, this is the face of your brand to the external world. Yes, it’s just a building, yes it’s just a door – but the act of opening it and welcoming customers inside is extremely powerful. Because what happens once they walk through those doors is nothing short of a miracle.

Inside our restaurants, connection is king. If you close your eyes and stand in the middle of a busy restaurant on a Friday night you can hear this connection all around you…cell phones buzzing, loud conversations happening and people laughing. We’re sharing stories, ideas, and experiences all at the table in your restaurant – and it begins when you open the door to invite us in.

While restaurants provide the ultimate platform to connect, it’s not the only place it’s happening.

Connection also occurs online. The world is changing rapidly and more and more of our customers are taking their conversations online. Take a look at these staggering numbers:
  • Facebook: 200 million users worldwide. If it were a country, it would be the world’s 6th largest.
  • Twitter: 7+ million users worldwide. A growth of 1,382% in on year.
  • Blogs: 133 million blogs worldwide and 346 million readers.
  • YouTube: There is 15 hours of video uploaded to YouTube every minute.
Simply said the world online today is a gathering of the masses. Compare these two different gatherings of people to gain a better understanding of the capacity of Social Media: This past February 98 million people watched the Super Bowl (the biggest sporting event of the entire year). That’s half of the amount of people that are on Facebook…every day.

The future of our brands is in the hands and minds of consumers. We owe it to ourselves and our businesses to engage, connect and open our doors to our customers both online and offline.

This blog is about people. The people in your restaurants, the people online and the power in connecting with them.
