Staple Food Prices ‘09

 

 
Due to cultural and climatic conditions, different diets and seasonal price fluctuation, it is especially difficult to compare the prices for staple foods on a global level. For the comparison on the right, UBS took as a basis a basket of 39 commodities based on Western European consumer habits. On a worldwide average, this basket costs €295. In Switzerland, foodstuff prices exceed those in other Western European countries by 45%.
