A Grill Room in a Grain Store

Solid stone walls, imposing wooden beams and a 7-m-high ceiling are all reminders that the stylish Frog Taverne was once a grain store. Today, a 6-m-long grill along one wall is the main focus of attention, for at Froggy’s, the good old grill concept has been relaunched.

The background to this is that the two chefs from Northern France, Alexandre Gauthier and William Elliott, wanted to add a second string to their bow, without giving up their neighbouring gourmet restaurant. With starting capital of € 160,000 for furnishings and renovation work, they managed to pep up the 88 sq m (plus a 60-sq m terrace). The different styles of wall have been cleverly staged – thick square stone blocks give way to pink clinker bricks and the untreated wooden beams link the different corners of the restaurant together.

The furniture consists of simple wooden tables and 8-seater benches, based on the table d’hôte principle. An orange frog which one stumbles upon in the entrance, courtyard and restaurant serves as an attractive decorative element.

The food offer, which is simple, is written on a large board and ranges in price from € 18 (2 courses) to € 24 (3 courses).Practically everything revolves around pork – grilled chops, spare ribs, pig trotters, although barbecue chicken and dorada are also available. All meals are served with salad and potatoes. The menu also features 5 different starters and 7 desserts. On average, the restaurant caters for 100 guests a day, each payingaround € 25 at lunchtime and € 31 in the evening.
