Be a ‘Chef for a Night’

Teatro 7
in Milan opened in 2005 as a restaurant cum cooking school. Its creatoris Rico Guarneri, an artist and scenographer with a passion for cooking, who hasbrought his show-business experience to show cooking and teaching. So much so,that the kitchen is completely on view not only from the restaurant, but from the street too, so that passers-by can look in through the 15-m-long shop window.

Cooking courses are aimed at non-professionals and are taught bearing in mind thefacilities people are likely to have in their own homes. In the same vein, food forthe restaurant is bought daily at local markets and supermarkets, with an eye to theright balance between quality, seasonal produce and price. Accordingly, the menu changes every day, and there is usually a choice of just seven items.

Bread and desserts are home made. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. At noon there is a fixed price formula at € 12.50, with two main courses, water, wine andcoffee. The average bill for dinner is € 35. One of Teatro 7’s most popular featuresis its offer of the opportunity to be ‘chef for a night’; on Thursdays, people can invite family and friends to the restaurant and cook a dish for them alongside the restaurant staff. The dish prepared by the ‘chef for a night’ is included on the menu for that evening and the other customers can order it, too.
