Cioccolatitaliani is a café cum pastry shop cum ice cream parlour cum restaurantall around the chocolate theme. Or, better, chocolates, as the stress in on the different origins and flavours of the cocoa beans as well as the different ways in which they are transformed and served. The brand name - Cioccolatitaliani - refers to the merging of these exotic flavours with the Italian tradition in chocolate and ice cream making, and with an Italian slant culinarywise. The really interesting side to the format is indeed the restaurant, serving savoury recipes featuring chocolate, as in cocoa tagliatelle with cheese fondue and cherry tomatoes. As regards ice creams one will not find here the traditional fancy compositions where different flavours are all mixed up in a single bowl, but a tasting of five different flavours, served in small individual glass cups carried to the table on a slate tray. The owner Giovanni Ferrieri has called on Franco Costa of Costa Group to conceive the restaurant and retail space in Milan and Costa has come up with a project designed as a sort of foil to set off and reflect the chocolate theme. Hence warm brown hues throughout, natural wood, white tiles in the kitchen. The full view kitchen and pastry shop adds an element of transparency and show cooking to the whole experience. Cioccolatitaliani has currently two restaurants, one in Milan and one in Naples. www.cioccolatitaliani.it
