The aim of the three in-store coffee shops and restaurants of the family-run textile retail chain (130 outlets in six countries) Lanidor’s is to turn the brand and its message into an experience through catering, creating associations and promoting lingerability. With seating for 52, the impressive feature of the first outlet launched in 2001 at Campo Grande 3 B, is its brightly coloured purple, orange and white decor, which like fashion changes every season. And the menus (mainly lunch, €2.95-16.95) follow the same logic. Bestselling dish? Their ‘Cod LA Caffé Style’ (€15.75). Location 2, opened in 2004, at Avenida da Liberdade 129, which even has its own entrance and seating for 92, serves lunch (€10-18) and dinner (€10-21) and, with bestsellers like tunafish steak (€16.75), an average bill can be as high as €30. And the tearoom – opened in 2006 at Avenida da Liberdade 177 A (35 seats) – provides a cosy atmosphere which crosses traditional and contemporary- style and offers breakfasts, light gourmet lunches and an afternoon tea buffet sponsored by Ladurée of Paris. All the units also feature a stylish lounge, a salon with internet access and a good selection of magazines and books. To sum up: high-class design, stylish atmosphere and light cuisine with the emphasis on pasta and poultry/fish dishes. An average bill at the café comes in at €4+ and in the restaurant at around €20. Estimates put total annual earnings from this gastronomic trilogy at €1 m. Non-textile customers make up a respectable percentage of 40%. Men? On the increase!
