Far Eastern Pearl with Minimalist Design
With names ranging from ‘feelings of happiness’, ‘spring awakes’ and ‘high flyer’ to‘motherland love’, the seven ramen (€6.50 – 9) at the ‘
MoschMosch’ Japanesenoodle bar in the heart of Frankfurt awaken great expectations. Plus: starters, saladsand vegetables, Asian noodle soups and five dishes based on fried noodles.
The young owners, Tobias Jäkel & Matthias Schönberger, launched the concept in November 2002. From the word go, this minimalistically designed Far Eastern pearl has attracted crowds of ‘in’ people.
At lunchtime, the 60 seats of the 150 sq m locationtend to be filled by workers from the nearby office buildings. Since May 2004,there has been a second outlet also in
Frankfurt: 70 seats on 240 sq m, which are occupiedby an average of 280 guests per day.
The factors contributing to a feeling of well-being include light-coloured oak furniture and a few high-grade details, such asa herb wall and hand-made porcelain.
In Düsseldorf, restaurateur Kerstin Schwan(Olives im stilwerk) joined forces with Jäkel & Schönberger and opened another MoschMosch in the late summer of 2006 – the fourth store following another owneroperated outlet in Mainz. The most potent MoschMosch remains the first one, which is expected to break the €1 m revenues barrier this year.
