Innovative Gourmet Experiences In a Historic Setting
Zurich's five-star luxury resort, The Dolder Grand, was opened at the end of April 2008 after a four-year rebuilding programme, reportedly costing around CHF500 m. Alongside its 173 rooms, it has spa facilities, a ‘golf wing', two restaurants and a bar. Beneath its splendid historic ceiling, the restaurant, a 54-seat finedining formula with one Michelin star, serves its customers young, innovative, gourmet experiences. Bestsellers are the four-course menu at CHF138 as well as the fish dishes from the à la carte menu. The average bill comes to approximately CHF250 and the evening trade accounts for around 80% of sales. The modern Garden Restaurant (117 seats) serves light, European cuisine (favourite: D-Lunch menu at CHF50 or CHF60); the ratio of lunchtime to evening trade is approx. 40:60. Both restaurants feature terraces offering fantastic views across the city and in the bar one can relax to piano music or a DJ's selection beneath extraordinary Harry-Potterlike lighting effects. In the modern lobby, with its antique fireplace, drinks, snacks, cakes and patisseries are served. All areas are open to the public. Overall turnover for the hotel's gastronomic business in 2008 was around CHF15 m.
