Mysterious, Complex and a Feast for the Senses

Connected with the Knights Templar, the meeting place of Spain’s first MasonicLodge and, many, many decades later, the venue for the first stock exchange in Madrid, the medieval building close to Plaza Mayor has housed a fine-dining conceptcalled La Capilla de la Bolsa since 2007. And, really, a restaurant could hardly bemore multi-faceted with the 200 seats being spread over six very different rooms, each extremely different and decorated with great attention to historical detail, on three floors. While the main room, ‘La Capilla’, preserves a classic decor with the original pillars, the light and airy ‘Lucernario’ is distinguished by a floral style. Completely different are ‘Las Tentaciones’ (The Temptations) with its Art Deco influences and the ‘Privado de la Abadesa’ with walls covered in green onyx. ‘Mediterranean cuisine with avant-garde influences’ is served in all rooms and particular importance attached to the unadulterated taste of first-class produce. The average bill amounts to €70 (including good wine). To underscore the sensory experience, the restaurant offers piano and song at the Steinway grand piano in the main hall. Besides this €1.4 m project, the Spanish Grupo Zeland operates other foodservice concepts including the La Vaca Argentina steakhouse chain.
