Olives, Olive Oil and All Its Derivates


 
Olive oil is a main staple of the so called Mediterranean diet. No wonder, then, thatsomeone has thought of making it the core of a restaurant concept. The MammaOliva chain was launched in 2009 by Neapolitan company Emme Sei, that alreadyhave successful concepts under their belt, such as the Fratelli La Bufala restaurantand pizza brand. The Mamma Oliva ristoshop concept is focused around olives, extravirginolive oil and all its derivates, both edible and not, such as cosmetics. Theconcept also stresses the ‘healthiness’ and ‘naturality’ of a diet based on olive oil,and the theme is declined also in the decor of the restaurants, based on naturalwood and an olive green colour scheme.
 
The Mamma Oliva menu starts with antipasti,which can be composed ad libitum from the self-service buffet, and thensoups, pasta, meat and fish, pizza. All dishes have olives or oil as an ingredient andare inspired by the Mediterranean tradition. Olive oil is also featured in the dessertsection, as for example in the olive-oil ice-cream. The shop sells olive oil bottlesand other delicacies, but also soap, shampoo, bath lotions and candles. MammaOliva has 4 restaurants, 2 in Milan, one in Naples and one in Dubai. Development of thebrand both in Italy and abroad will be through franchising.
