Ficardo’s Taverna, located in the bustling tourist resort of Kato Paphos, offers an authentic taste of Cyprus all day long. This secret garden restaurant was once the home of owners Nikos Savva and Eleni Ficardo, who took on the challenge of converting their one-time bungalow into a welcome retreat for weary travellers back in 2004. The estate has since become the home of five-star hotels and beach front resort developments. Nestled in amongst the glamorous resorts, the 90-seat courtyard restaurant, which turns up to 200 covers a day, has become a firm favourite with returning holiday makers, thanks largely to its home-cooked menu. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Eleni cooks traditional Greek dishes, such as Mousakka and Afelia, while the restaurant’s chef produces international specialties such as Jumbo Prawns Provencal, Flambe Fillet Steak Madera and Pork Fillet with Roquefort Sauce. All foods are cooked using fresh ingredients sourced from local markets each day. Local wines, including those from the family-run Ficardo’s Wines, complement the menu. Decorated in traditional Cypriot style, with ceramic floors, heavy wooden doors and wrought iron decorations, Ficardo’s also offers a touch of England in the sun with a traditional rose garden. The inside restaurant and large back patio are often booked for wedding parties and private functions for up to 50, while the main garden area can seat 60. Traditional entertainment is often provided during the peak summer months.
