Refurbished into a Chic Living Room

According to the creators of fast casual formula QuQu, which in the twelfth year of its existence has acquired a young look thanks to a €600,000 makeover, the concept has been ‘rediscovered’. Since mid-December 2009, chic vintage style has dominated the two-storey, 120-seater unit, spanning 180 sqm at number 24 on Barcelona’s chic Paseo de Gracia, rather than a guesthouse ambience. Now the design is colourful, contemporary and relaxed. Pictures in bold colours and trendy lamps are paired with the mosaic floors typical of the quarter and in the midst of wooden tables and chairs and upholstered seats, there’s a library: “The aim is to make guests feel like they are in their own living room,” says David Romero, Marketing Director of AN Grup that manages a portfolio of 22 locations under 13 brand names in the city. At QuQu, Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine is served up in the restaurant and, at the bar in the entrance, small, traditional snacks, known as Tapas, Montaditos and Pinchos, dominate the bulging display, at prices starting from €2. In the restaurant area and on the terrace, popular dishes include hamburger or their famous scrambled eggs and tortillas with a variety of fillings. And what about prices? Moderate. The average check is €16. The outlet, which opens from 7 am to 1 am, is expecting to generate sales of €800,000 for the first full year – including take-away business. A second QuQu location is run by the Eat Out Group at Barcelona Airport.
