Restaurant in a Pirate Ship
In Neringa, Juodkrante˙'s seaside resort area, the Kogas restaurant ship awaits visitors during the summer. This old-style sailing ship was built in 2005 for the shooting of a film about the German pirate Klaus Störtebeker. According to the screenplay, the sailing ship was to be burned at the end of the film to create an impressive final scene, but thankfully it avoided such a sad destiny. After the filming, the ship remained unused for two winters until, at the end of 2006, the present owners - a family-run company involved in local tourism, fishing and in running another restaurant - purchased it and breathed new life into it. Solid, old wood furniture was selected for the interior, the whole ship was adorned with medieval decorations - books, glasses, wooden caskets, jars and guns. The ship was equipped with a bar, a kitchen, and communication devices. European cuisine dominates; various dishes of rabbit, lamb, beef, veal and seafood are offered to customers. There are particular original recipes - such as ‘Pirates' soup, which is flavoured with a drop of 80% rum and ‘Pirates' steak, for those with a pirate-size appetite! It is an especially popular environment for medieval style feasts, weddings and parties. The ship has 70 seats (outdoors). Hot meals average €5-6. www.jovila.lt
