The Island of Djurgarden

The island of Djurgarden provides a green oasis in the city of Stockholm,Sweden. In the heart of the island is Rosendal’s Garden , an organic garden with café, bakery and shops that has operated since 1984 in the former greenhouses of the 19th-century Rosendal Palace. Rosendal’s Garden is an open garden managed by a self-supporting foundation. They also offer courses, lectures, excursions, and exhibitions on subjects like organic cooking and gardening. The garden has an Orchard with some hundred apple trees; a Wine garden and the magnificent Rose garden with over a hundred varieties of rare old roses. Rosendal can host birthday parties, corporate events and private dinners. The plots and greenhouses yield a wide selection of biodynamically grown vegetables, flowers, herbs and pot-plants. Most of these are sold in the Plant Shop or the Garden Shop (where you also find bread from the bakery, home-made herb teas, jars of marmalade, seasonings and many other gifts), or used for cooking in the café.

The café is situated in one of the greenhouses. The menu includes hot and cold beverages, wine and beer, sandwiches, delicious cakes and pastries, salads, soups and other lunch dishes. All bread, pies, buns, cookies and cakes are baked on premises.

There is seating inside the café greenhouse but if the weather is nice most café guests bring their food and drinks outside and enjoy it at tables in the garden or sitting down in the grass under the apple trees.
